Energy Authority: Not much is added to the electricity bill compared to income

Maldives Energy Authority has said that compared to the income, not much is added to the electricity bills when the power subsidies come to a halt.

A statement issued by the Energy Authority today said that companies are allowed to increase the electricity bill with the people’s income in consideration.

The statement said that about MVR 500 million from subsidies would be diverted to capital investments by this change.

Energy Authority said that the change would also push the country towards renewable energy sources.

The statement from the Energy Authority also accused some of providing misinformation about the changes to the electricity charges. Energy Authority advised all media not to spread inaccurate information.
