Shumba Gong charged with “threatening” an individual

Ahmed Ashraf (Shumba Gong), a loyal follower of former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor – who is currently buried under a myriad of charges – has been charged with threatening an individual.

A source from within Prosecutor General’s Office informed “Sun” that the case was filed with Criminal Court on Sunday.

The source said that Shumba was suspected of having threatened someone, and that no details regarding the case could be revealed before trial due to the sensitivity of the issue.

Shumba has been charged under law making issuing threats and possession dangerous weapons or sharp objects illegal.

Shumba was arrested on November 1, 2015 in a joint operation by Maldivian and Sri Lankan police from his home in Sri Lanka.

Shumba was very active in the social media scene in promoting Adeeb, and had expressed anti-government sentiments via his social media accounts after Adeeb’s arrest.
