A police media official spoke to “Sun” and said that remand period was extended for 7th time last Wednesday, and that Criminal Court had allowed police five more days to complete their investigation.

According to police, the 27 year-old Sri Lankan man was arrested on October 24, 2015 from Maldives.

Three Maldivians, who the police suspect hired the Sri Lankan man to assassinate the president have also been arrested.

In face of pressure from Sri Lankan government, Maldivian government insists that the Sri Lankan man was being kept under arrest because there was sufficient evidence proving his guilt.
