Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for drug trafficking

A man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined MVR 50,000 for drug trafficking.

Ghassan Hassan from G. Dh. Thinadhoo was sentenced by Criminal Court on Thursday.

Ghassan, during trial, admitted that the narcotics found during police raid on a room on the ground floor of G. Parkerhouse and G. Bluewest – where he lived – was his.

The raid took place on August 26, 2014.

Ghassan has been ordered to pay the fine within a month’s period.

Criminal Court also ruled that Ghassan had been unable to prove to court that the MVR 4,790 found on his wallet was not from the sale of narcotics. The money was therefore confiscated by State.
