Dhiraagu – telecom partner of Sailing Around Maldives

Dhiraagu has signed on as exclusive telecom partner of the event – Sailing Around Maldives - the ambitious plan of Abdul Gafoor Ali (Gabbe) to sail around Maldives in a catamaran within 23 days.

Dhiraagu signed the documents making them the exclusive telecom partner of the event, along with event organizer Atoll Sailor, in a ceremony held at Dhiraagu Head Office on Tuesday.

The documents were signed on behalf of Dhiraagu by Marketing Director Ahmed Maumoon and Marketing, Communications and Public Relations Manager Mohamed Mirshan Hassan.

Documents were signed on behalf of Atoll Sailor by Managing Director Sikandar Nasrulla Kamaluddin and Gabbe.

During the ceremony, Dhiraagu praised Gabbe, noting his participation in various international sea sport competitions and his achievements in those competitions.

Atoll Sailor said that the event would advertise Maldivian tourism industry and create interest for sea sports among youth.

Dhiraagu said that a vessel tracking system would be installed on the catamaran and that a crew to provide assistance, if need be, would be travelling with media as Gabbe attempts to make the journey dependent on forces of nature.

Maumoon said that partnering with Atoll Sailor as Gabbe attempts to do what no one else has attempted before was a huge honor.

“Gabbe will receive Dhiraagu’s satellite tracking device, satellite phone and uninterrupted internet service throughout his journey. These are services that will be provided by us to improve this journey,” said Maumoon.

Sikandhar said that the purpose of choosing Dhiraagu as their telecom partner was to have a 100 percent Maldivian brand in on the event.

In addition to promoting Maldivian tourism industry, protecting child rights and protecting the environment will also be promoted during the event.
