Life sentence to man found guilty of possessing narcotics

Criminal Court has sentenced a man to life in prison and fined him MVR 100,000 for possession of narcotics.

Saudulla from L. Kunahandhoo was sentenced on Tuesday, after being arrested back in April 20, 2015 at around 3:50 am with narcotics on his person.

He was arrested by police while near public toilets situated near Local Market.

Criminal Court verdict read that witness testimony proved that an emptied film canister containing narcotics fell off the folding on the bottom of his shorts during the police body-check.

And that analysis report on the content found inside the canister proved it was 23.3233 grams of cannabis.

Saudhulla is required to pay the fine within a month’s period.
