The Supreme Court has decided to investigate and take appropriate steps if delays in the proceedings at any Maldivian court are reported to the Supreme Court.
A circular issued by the Supreme Court with the signature of the Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed today said that if a person reports delays in their case at any Judicial Court in the Country to the Supreme Court, the court would investigate the matter. And said that steps would be taken if necessary after the reviewing the case by the Supreme Court.
Steps that would be taken according to the Supreme Court circular:
• Changing the Judge on the case
• Assign the case to a legal emissary appointed by the Supreme Court
• Take steps within the law if the case is delayed without a valid reason
While the Supreme Court has issued a circular promising to take steps in delayed cases across the country, the court has recently said that a Judge can leave a case only with the permission from the Supreme Court.
