Shops to close at 10 again starting Friday

Economic Ministry has announced as since the public school holidays are over, shops are to start closing at 10 pm again as per usual, starting Friday.

A temporary permission was issued to prolong shop closing time to 11 pm, from December 24 to January 14. The concession was made to ease pressure as shoppers flocked to retail outlets during the school holidays.

Deputy Economic Minister Adam Thaufeeq spoke to “Sun” on Wednesday and said that shops need to close at 10 pm as per usual starting January 15.

Government made the decision to order shops be closed at 10 pm on March 25, 2015; partly in an effort to stifle gang violence and ensure peace and safety on the streets.
