The agreements were signed on behalf of government by Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, and on behalf of MTCC by the company’s CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem.

Speaking after signing the agreements, Dr. Muizzu said that purpose of “Male’ Industrial Village” was to shift many of the important industrial work done in Male’ to the area. And that the main work done there would be waste management.

“… Land will be allocated for the purpose and it will designed in such a way that barges can directly dock there,” said Muizzu.

The other main purpose of the hub will be to shift many of the businesses that shouldn’t be run in areas people live in to that area.

“… There are timber warehouses, some metal workshops and certain dangerous work that damage the respiratory system are there. They should not be there in heavily populated areas. But land also needs to be there for such businesses,” he said.

Muizzu said that the criterions through which people can get land in the area would be announced on a later date.

He said that cost of the project which is being funded through government budget would be covered through lease payments.

“…This expenditure is an investment. This expenditure can be, god willing, recovered through lease payments within a period of four years.”
