Indian Foreign Secretary arrives in Maldives

Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has arrived in the Maldives.

The Indian High Commission said that the Foreign Secretary arrived in the country on an official visit.

The Maldivian Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer and the Indian Ambassador to the Maldives, Mr. Akhilesh Mishra welcomed the Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).

Rumors has it that the purpose of Jaishankar’s visit is to discuss serious diplomatic issued with the Maldivian government. But neither government has revealed any details as to the purpose of his visit.

India’s The Hindhu news said that Indian Foreign Secretary Jaishankar would be visiting the neighboring Sri Lanka after his visit to the Maldives.

Jaishankar is also scheduled to visit Paskistan on 15 January as well. The Hindhu reported that it is unlikely that the Indian Foreign Secretary would visit Pakistan in light of the recent terrorist attack on the Indian airbase near the India-Pakistan border.

Both the Indian and the Maldivian governments have been repeatedly stated that the relations between the two countries are improving.
