Dr. Muizzu: The target is establishing 20 mechanical parking systems

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that the target of the government is to install 20 mechanical parking systems to resolve the parking issues in Malé City.

Speaking on “Raajje Miadhu” (Maldives Today) program on the state media, Minister Dr. Muizzu said that at least ten parking systems are included in the budget.

“It’s on the budget to install ten systems. That is our lowest amount included in the budget. But the target is to create space for 20 parking systems.” Dr. Muizzu said.

He said that they are preparing to open for proposals for the project.

“The work to open the bid is ongoing. Since this project is being conducted by the government, the company tasked with the project would have to giving teach government bodies and train them.” Minister Dr. Muizzu said.

The Housing Minister said that the locations for the mechanical parking systems have not been established so far and they are working on establishing good areas to establish the system.

Such parking systems are usually used for parking cars. But since there are number of motorcycles in the country, Dr. Muizzu said that they are working with Japan to build special parking systems for motorcycles. And so, he said that a team from Japan is currently working in the Maldives taking exact measurements of motorcycles to build a system.

Housing Minister Dr. Muizzu said that the government is hoping that the parking system project would be completed within the year.
