Over 16 million in USD bought from BML in December

Bank of Maldives (BML) has said that over USD 16 million was bought from the bank this past December.

The Media Official of BML told Sun Media that the amount of USD sold from the bank was risen by 25 percent in December compared to the month of November.

"To go abroad, to over 20,000 people, USD 10 million was sold. And through VISA Debit Card, customers completed over USD 5.8 million worth of transactions." The BML Media Official said.

Customers of BML can buy USD 500 from the bank when they present an air ticket to leave the country.

The bank said that they sold the USD for student fees of over 100 students. And sold USD 60 people leaving the country for medical purposes.

"For studies and medical services abroad, about half a million USD was sold." BML said.

While over USD 16 million was sold from true state Bank alone at the year end break last year, people bought large amounts of USD from other banks as well.
