Police seek charges against former VP Adeeb over lease of 24 islands

Police have submitted cases to the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office against former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb regarding corruption allegations in the lease of 24 additional islands for tourist resort development.

This has been confirmed to Sun Media by a PG Office official.

Adeeb, who is under arrest, was earlier questioned about the lease of the 24 islands.

Adeeb responded by saying that he had in his capacity as tourism minister signed the agreements, after ensuring that the documents were lawful and complete.

Also, Adeeb and former Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Abdulla Ziyath have been charged with corruption in the lease of a lagoon in Malé atoll for tourism purposes.
