31 businesses found with expat cashiers

A total of 31 businesses with expatriate cashiers have been found today and fined with MVR 10,000.

Information Officer of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Hassan Khaleel told Sun Media tonight that a restaurant, three tea cafés and 27 shops with expatriate cashiers were found in an operation conducted from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. today.

He said that along with the 31 businesses, a total of 50 businesses were checked in the operation today.

Immigration also found a tea café without permit and another café that has not registered with the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).

A total of 62 businesses have been fine so far in the special operation being conducted by Immigration.
