UK citizen welcomed as 2016

UK citizen Kate Holmes has become the first tourist to arrive in the Maldives in 2016.

She was welcomed at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) by officials from Ministry of Tourism and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

Holmes arrived on Oman Air at 6:50 a.m., and was greeted with boduberu and cultural dances.

MMPRC has planned many campaigns to promote tourism in 2016. The year’s target is 1.5 million tourists.

Activities have also been planned to welcome the 500,000th tourist.
