President: 2015 a year of success for Maldives

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, in his address to the nation on the occasion of the New Year, has said that 2015 has been a year of success for the Maldives.

He said that 2015 has been a happy year which brought about many positive changes in terms of peace and order and economic progress for the people of the Maldives.

Highlighting the inauguration of the Malé–Hulhulé bridge before the end of the year, he said, “Our hopes are linked with the bridge project. The bridge will be the most prominent structure in the recent history of our country. I am pleased to inform Maldivian citizens that I am confident that God willing, it will be opened in 2018.”

President Yameen said that the Projected State Budget for 2016 will facilitate development and progress for the whole country, including the inauguration of many new projects and the completion of many ongoing projects.

He urged everyone to cooperate with the government to ensure the successful completion of mega developmental projects planned for 2016.

Maldives will also hold a campaign themed Visit Maldives Year 2016 in the year ahead, which the President said would expand the tourism industry, facilitate economic progress, and increase job opportunities.

He announced that 2016 would also see new projects aimed at expanding the aviation industry.

The President extended New Year’s greetings to all Maldivian citizens.
