President Yamin inaugurates Visit Maldives Festival 2016

President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom has inaugurated the Visit Maldives Festival 2016 which targets to bring 1.5 million tourists in the next year.

While the festival was officially inaugurated at Dharubaaruge tonight, the shows of the festival are will be ongoing at Alimas (Diamond) Carnival tonight and tomorrow night.

The number of tourists that visited the country in the year 2015 would be announced at the festivities tomorrow night.

The popular Pakistani singer, Athif Aslam is scheduled visit the Maldives to take part in the show tomorrow night.

Aside from Athif Aslam and a popular Indian dance group, a number of local artists would be taking part in the show.

Famous actor Hussain Kuwajerwala from the Indian soap opera, “Kumkum” has come to the Maldives to host the event tomorrow night. Along with the Indian actor, the show would be hosted by Aminath Namza.

Police said that about 7,500 people can attend the shows tonight and tomorrow night. They said that the security at the shows this time would me tighter.

Since there would be limited number of people allowed to watch the show, Police request that interested people get on the queue early on. They said that the audience would be let in about 90 minutes before the show begins.

The Police also said that two screens would be placed at Artificial Beach and the “Baibalaa” (local sport) area.

Visit Maldives Year is targeted to advertise the Maldivian tourism in collaboration with 50 years of national independence.
