Three people have been arrested in suspicion of bringing a Sri Lankan sniper to assassinate the President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom.
Information Officer of the Police, Ismail Ali told Sun Media that three locals were arrested in the sniper case and was remanded by the Criminal Court on the same day.
He did not give any information on any of the suspects.
A press statement from the Police on 7 November said that that the 27-year-old sniper was arrested in Maldives on 24 October.
It said that the investigation has learned that the man paid by a group of Maldivians but did not reveal who made the payment.
“Looking at the information received in this case so far, the investigation has learned that the Sri Lankan national was brought to Maldives with payments from a group of Maldivians. And the investigation has learned that the man was tasked to assassinate the Maldivian President using firearms.” The statement from the Maldives Police Service on 7 November said.
