Colonel Nazim trial scheduled for Sunday

Trial to appeal former Defense Minister Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim’s trial has been scheduled for Sunday.

According to High Court, the hearing will be held at 1 pm, Sunday afternoon.

State prosecutors had provided confidential documents as evidence during the last hearing, which the defense requested to view even if the hearing needed to be closed to public.

State prosecutors had said that they had no objection to the defense viewing the documents.

Chief judge presiding over the case said the documents in question would be shared with the defense to the extent possible, after they reviewed the documents and decided if it was acceptable as evidence.

Defense argued that Criminal Court had sentenced Nazim to jail over illegal possession of a weapon, even though there was doubt over whether the pistol found in his residence belonged to him.

Nazim was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
