Fire in house in Maafannu causes damage

A fire incident occurred at M. Lodge located on Izzuddeen magu at around 19:15 this evening.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s Lt Abdul Muhsin said that the fire started in a room on the second floor on Majeedee magu side of the building.

Large amounts of smoke was observed coming from the building.

MNDF rescued several women and children who took to the roof of the building to escape the fire. None of them suffered any injury.

An 18 year old girl was however taken to IGM Hospital. IGMH said that her lungs were affected by the smoke and she had suffered burns to parts of her legs.

IGMH stated at around 20:20 this evening that her condition is now stable.
