Most prestigious football tournament in N. Atoll has begun

The MVR 150,000 football tournament open to the N. Atoll has begun today.

The Siyam-Mauroof Soccer Cup was opened today by the Leader of MDA and MP for Dh. Meedhoo constituency, Ahmed Siyam Mohamed and the MP for the N. Kendhikulhudhoo constituency, Ali Mauroof.

The trophy designed especially for the tournament was displayed at the opening ceremony today. A total of nine islands are taking part in the tournament at N. Kudafari this year. The nine teams were split into two groups and the opening match between Kendhikulhudhoo and Landhoo in Group A ended in a 1-1 draw.

Latest Champion Magoodhoo would be playing in the tournament tomorrow. Prize money of MVR 100,000 is offered to the Champion team while MVR 50,000 is offered to the Runner-ups.

MP Mauroof has vowed to host a football tournament every year with the prize money of over MVR 100,000 in the N. Atoll. Last year’s tournament was held in the name “Ali Mauroof Invitational Cup.”
