Launch travelling with people exceeding the capacity crashes on reef

A launch travelling with more people than the vessel capacity allows has crashed on to a reef in Meemu atoll.

The launch that crashed was transporting a football team to F. Nilandhoo. Sources say that there were 27 people on board the launch with the capacity of 22.

The incident was not reported to the Police or the MNDF after the launch crashed onto the reef.

Police Media Official told Sun Media tonight that a launch travelling from M. Mulah to Nilandhoo crashed on the M. Thuvaru reef. The official said that the incident was not reported to the Police but they are checking the condition of the boat and the people on board through the owner of the launch.

“The owner of that launch informed the Police through another launch, that the people on board have been saved. And that no one was injured.” The Police Media Official said.

Information Officer of MNDF, Major Adnaan Mohamed also said that no such incident was reported to MNDF.
