Deputy Chairperson of MDP, Ali Shiyam has been summoned to the Police and has had his statement taken in the charge of threatening the Police.
Speaking to the press after giving his statement to the Police this afternoon, Ali Shiyam said that he has never threatened any Police Officer.
Shiyam’s lawyer, Hassan Latheef said that the Police accuse Shiyam of threatening a group of Police officers at Breakwater Restaurant in the Artificial Beach area.
Lawyer Hassan Latheef said that Shiyam is being suspected under Articles 120, 122 and 511 of the Penal Code.
“Threatening with violence, threatening with false information and threatening official Police work is the charges of Ali Shiyam’s summoning.” Lawyer Hassan Latheef said.
He said that Ali Shiyam gave a statement to the Police denying the charges.
Information Officer of the Police, Ismail Ali told Sun Media that Ali Shiyam was summoned today regarding a case under investigation and that he cannot share any information about the case at this time.
Article 120 of the Penal Code is Assault and says that a person commits the offense if he puts such person in fear of imminent bodily injury without the consent of another person.
While article 122 of the Penal Code defines threats to commit any offense likely to cause bodily injury, or knowing that the information is false, informs another that a situation dangerous to human life or commission of a violent offense is imminent.
And Article 511 defines purpose of influencing the exercise of official authority by a person who is or will be a public official as a crime.
