Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad has arrived in Addu City has a special representative of President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom to observe the damage to the city in the recent rains and flood.
Minister Jihad arrived in Addu City at 7 p.m. last night and met with the members of the steering committee established by the Government to provide the aid needed by the people.
The steering committee consists of officials from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Maldives Police Service, Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC), Housing Ministry and National Disaster Management.
The Chairman of the committee is the MNDF Commander of the Southern Area, Colonel Abdulla Ibrahim.
Minister Jihad told Sun Media today that he met with the members of the committee and received the latest update on their progress so far.
He said that he is now visiting the houses in Feydhoo and Maradhoo-Feydhoo to observe the damages from the flood and a report on the damage would be accumulated today.
“After meeting the people and seeing the damages, a report would be made today. President wants to see the damages and wants to know how he can help.” Minister Jihad said.
