Inthi: Police entered MDP Shed illegally

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Spokesperson and North-Mafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy (Inthi) has said that police entered MDP Shed while their “Minjuvaan” protest was ongoing Friday night, illegally.

Speaking during a press conference held on Saturday, Inthi said that police had entered MDP Shed illegally while the protest was ongoing, and had cut off electricity to the shed and created an atmosphere of fear.

“Its private property. A place we run. Someone’s home. Police entered the place illegally and meddled with private property,” he said.

He also said that politicians were interfering with day-to-day operational duties of police officers, and called out for a police force free from political influence.

Speaking during the press conference, MDP Secretary General Anas Abdul Sattar said that police had curtailed MDP protest in violation of what was agreed between the party and police, and that police had also used unnecessary force against protestors.
