Committee set up to help Feydhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo citizens

A steering committee has been set up to assist citizens of Addu City islands – Feydhoo and Maradhoo-Feydhoo – hit by flooding from torrential rain, and to drain the flood water.

National Disaster Management Center said that the steering committee was set up upon counsel of President Abdulla Yameen.

The steering committee includes officials from Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), Maldives Police Service (MPS), Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC), Housing Ministry and National Disaster Management Center.

MNDF Southern Area Commander Colonel Abdulla Ibrahim has been appointed chairman of the committee.

The committee was set up after Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar’s visit to Addu City to see how the flooding was being managed.

He met with senior officials of authorities involved in the relief effort.

In an interview to “Sun” on Wednesday, Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq (Soabe) said that flooding in Maradhoo-Feydhoo and two areas in Feydhoo has resulted in damage to many belongings, including refrigerators, bedrooms and sofas – things that people cannot do without.

National Disaster Management has said that officials were working non-stop to drain the flood water.
