Ooredoo has introduced satellite phone service for fishermen.
The service was launched by Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr Mohamed Shainee at a ceremony to mark Fisheries and Agriculture Day, held at Dharubaaruge on Thursday.
Provided via the Thuraya Set Sleeve Device, the service allows customers to use their smart phones as satellite phones.
Ooredoo said the free service, provided under its Corporate Social Responsibility program, is targeted at fishermen who spend long hours at sea, and farmers who work in remote uninhabited islands.
It will be available to fishermen who are registered at Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture.
Customers can call a pre-set number using the Ooredoo Satellite Phone Device Emergency Call button in an emergency situation.
Ooredoo provides satellite phone service in 161 countries.
