Work begins to move tsunami monument to Thin Ruh Park

Efforts are under way by Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure to move the tsunami monument from the south-eastern end of Malé to Thin Ruh Park.

The work began yesterday and the ministry says the move would be completed before the end of the month.

The monument is being relocated in preparation for the Malé–Hulhulé bridge project, since the Malé-end of the bridge will be at the current monument area.

The tsunami monument was put up to commemorate the 82 Maldivians who died in the 2004 tsunami.
