Four people arrested in relation to the IED discovered near Muliaage

Four people have been arrested in relation to the IED discovered on 2 November near the President’s official residence Muliaage.

The Information Officer of the Police, Ismail Ali told Sun Media tonight that all four of the people arrested are above the age of 18. And the remand of all four has been extended by 15 days by the Criminal Court.

But the Police did not say when the four people were arrested nor did he give any further information about the case.

Home Minister Umar Naseer has previously said that the IED found on a pickup truck parked near Muliaage was part of a planned attacked to assassinate President Abdulla Yamin.

He said that the road where the IED was placed was a road frequented by the President.

Once the IED was discovered, MNDF moved it to Maafannu Stadium and defused.

MNDF Captain, Ali Ihsaan said that if the IED exploded where it was found, a number of houses in the area would’ve been destroyed and many lives could’ve been lost.

Since the incident, the Government has banned vehicle parking on the surrounding roads of the President’s residence.
