Broadcast licence approved for Sun TV and Sun TV Plus

Operator of Sun Media Group, Picture Land FM Private Limited, has been given the broadcast license to operate two TV channels, Sun TV and Sun TV Plus.

The permit, for 24-hour broadcast in Maldives via satellite and cable, was given today by Maldives Broadcasting Commission.

This is the eleventh TV station to obtain license under the new regulation of the Broadcasting Commission.

The deadline to apply for broadcasting license was last Thursday. A total of 32 parties, including 18 TV channels and two radio channels, submitted applications for broadcasting license.

Broadcasting licenses have so far been issued to Maldives Broadcasting Corporation’s TVM, Voice of Maldives, Dhivehi FM (former Raajje FM), Raajje TV, TV5 initiated by associates of DRP Leader Thasmeen Ali, Islam Foundation’s MVTV, DhiFM, Radio Atoll, and TV Channel 9.

Among the meda operated by the Sun umbrella currently are Sun Online, Sun FM Radio and fortnightly magazine Sun.
