Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Investments, as required under Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Act.
President’s Office Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali tweeted this morning, “President appoints the Minister @EconDevMv Hon. @em_saeed as the Chairman of the Board of Investment as provisioned by the #SEZ Act.”

Until now, Saeed held the post of Vice Chairman of SEZ Board of Investments. The post of Chairman was held by Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.
In a separate tweet, Muaz said that Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu has been appointed as Member of SEZ Board of Investments.

Dr Muizzu will replace former Minister of Youth and Sports Mohamed Maleeh Jamal as Member of the SEZ Board of Investments.
This follows the dismissal of Vice President Ahmed Adheeb as the Chairman of the SEZ Board of Investments, and Co-Chair of the Economic and Youth Council.
Addressing the nation yesterday, President Abdulla Yameen said that the board and council will now be chaired under his direct supervision.
The remaining members in the SEZ Board of Investments are Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr Mohamed Shainee and Minister of Environment and Energy Thorig Ibrahim.
