MD of MMPRC Ziyath arrested

Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Abdulla Ziyath has been arrested.

Police said the arrest was made tonight under a court warrant in relation to an ongoing investigation. No details have been given.

Ziyath has been summoned and questioned by the police on four occasions.

Police searched his residence, H. Hiyaakoalhi, and seized some items on 14 October 2015.

Police also searched MMPRC Office and seized items on 17 October 2015.

Nature of the items seized from both locations is unclear.

The reason for warranting the search stated in the Criminal Court order was that the house contained devices used for listening to phone calls and information obtained by hacking emails.
