Maldives Police Service has ordered MDP not to host protest rallies at the junction of Chandhanee Magu and Fareedhee Magu starting tonight.
Police sent a letter to the MDP Chairperson saying that they cannot allow rallies at the corner of Fareedhee Magu under Article 41 of the Freedom of Protest.
The letter signed by the Head of Malé City Police, Chief Inspector Fathuhulla Waheed says that although the Police tried to keep the security and manage traffic, the participants of the rallies have so far neglected to obey orders and disrupt traffic.
And the serial protest rallies are causing a disturbance to the general public.
“And so businesses, restaurants, pedestrians, the tourists in the hotels and guesthouses in the area and commuters are facing difficulty are noted in the letter.” The Police website said.
The letter says that since this is the O’Level Exam days, parents are making noise complaints to the Police from the area.
It says that the Police have to be notified 36 hours before a rally.
MDP has been hosting serial protests in the area calling to free the former President Mohamed Nasheed.
