Mariya expresses interest to contest for post of MDP President

Former Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mariya Ahmed Didi has expressed interest to contest for the post of MDP President.

Mariya, who contested and won Macchangolhi Uthuru seat at the Parliament on MDP ticket, said today that it is the wish of many female members of MDP that someone who participates in MDP campaigns and activities assume the post of party President.

“I have been asked by several members to contest for the post of MDP President. It is difficult for me to say no to them, because I am with them. I do have the interest to contest for the post of MDP President.”

MDP’s election committee decided yesterday to announce the opportunity to express interest to contest for MDP President and Vice President, following the removal of Dr Didi and Alhan Fahmy from MDP leadership.

Mariya resigned from the post of MDP Chairperson by indicating that MDP is a party for young people, and that she wanted to make way for the young.
