Immigration did not cooperate with investigation of laptop issue: ACC

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that the Immigration Department refused to cooperate in the investigation of Malaysia’s Nexbiz having given a large quantity of laptops to the Immigration Department.

A case relating to Immigration’s border control system, involving Nexbiz, is currently in progress in Court.

Nexbiz had indicated that they want to test the software used for the border control system, as a reason for giving the laptops.

ACC President Hassan Luthfee said today that the concerned employees of Immigration Department went home after office hours when ACC went to investigate the matter.

Moreover, some employees have now taken the laptops home.

“We did not get full cooperation from the offices in Velaanaage. We are not doing something out of personal interest; we are also trying to do our job and trying to carry out our responsibilities,” Luthfee said.

He said that the laptops given by Nexbiz to test the software were distributed among Immigration Department’s employees. ACC wanted to check if the software was installed in the laptops.

“It seems some of the staff have taken the laptops home, and are not cooperating in handing them over. We want to check if it’s true, if the software is installed on the laptops,” he said.

Information has been received that Nexbiz gave about seventy laptops to Immigration Department to test the border control system software.

ACC has filed a case to court regarding the $39m (Rf600m) border control system project, claiming that the project involves corruption.

High Court had issued an order to halt the project until the case is cleared by the Court.
