India has granted aid of $31,526.28 for SAARC Coastal Zone Management Centre, established to monitor the coastal regions of SAARC.
The Indian High Commission in Maldives said that the cheque was handed over to newly-appointed Energy Minister Dr Maryam Shakeela (photo) by Indian High Commissioner Mulay, during Dr Shakeela’s visit to the Indian High Commission.
Dr Shakeela accepted the cheque and expressed her gratitude to the Indian government for its assistance for the development and operation of the Centre. The Indian High Commission noted that the Indian government had granted over $1m for the development of SAARC Coastal Zone in the past.
SAARC Coastal Zone Management Centre is SAARC’s main office which manages the coastal regions. The Centre conducts research, trainings, and education in these regions.
The coastal zone is represented by India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives.
