Minister of Home Affairs, Umar Naseer, who is also the current head of the national Inquiry Commission, has said that the investigation of the explosion on board the Presidential launch is making progress.
Minister Umar Naseer told Sun Media today that the investigation is ongoing and is making progress.
Police have arrested a few people in the investigation so far. But the Minister did not comment on that.
The Sri Lankan team assisting on the investigation told a Sri Lankan news media that that the explosion was a pre-planned attack.
Daily Mirror of Sri Lanka reports according to two Sri Lankan CID officers from the team that although the explosion on the Presidential launch was originally believed to be due to a technical problem, it is a pre-planned attack.
They reported that an explosive was set below the captain’s seat in the lower deck in the VIP cabin. And that information has been shared with the Maldivian Government.
And in an interview with The Guardian, the Minister of the President’s Office, Mohamed Hussain Shareef said that it was an attempt to assassinate the President.
