Mundhu: An opposition party won

Minister of the President’s Office, Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) has said that an opposition political party will not make an explosion on the Presidential launch and assassinate the President.

Some of the online news agencies such as the Eurasia Review says that according to the Minister of the President’s Office, Mundhu, no matter how loud the oppositions raise their voices, they would not physically attack the President.

Mundhu is currently in Colombo to share the information on the explosion aboard the Presidential launch to foreign delegations and the international media.

A presidential aide, bodyguard and the First Lady was injured in the explosion.

Some of the international media have quote Mundhu saying, “We have no reason to believe that anyone would want to assassinate the President.”

He said that it is most likely an accident. But in a previous interview to Sun Media, Mundhu has said that “nothing would be ruled out and cannot be ruled out.”

Mundhu noted that believing it to be an accident is not deciding that it is as such.

The First Lady is still being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). She sustained four spinal fractures in the explosion.

The incident is now being investigated by an international team of experts.
