Fiqh Academy will be formed soon: Shaheem

Islamic Minister Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that Fiqh Academy, made up of religious scholars, will be formed soon.

Providing information on Islamic Ministry’s work over the past 100 days, Shaheem told reporters that former employees of Fiqh Academy will be invited to join the new one.

He said that the government gives priority to developing and revising the Fiqh Academy, and that several people had expressed concern that non-suitable members maybe assigned to the Academy. Shaheem assured that only competent people will be chosen.

“It is very important to develop and revise Fiqh Academy. It is the concern of many that non-suitable members maybe assigned to the Academy. Even here we have the pioneers of Fiqh Academy. We are well informed of what Fiqh Academy is about, and its targets,” Shaheem said.

He said that the Academy had earlier not been operated according to rules, and also the rules had been revised. The new Academy will follow the necessary rules.

A cabinet sub-committee has been formed to work on constituting the new Fiqh Academy. The sub-committee is made up of Islamic Minister Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Home Minister Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, and Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muiz.

Fiqh Academy has issued four resolutions regarding several religious issued since it was formed in 2009.
