Government shortens official working hours

President Abdulla Yameen has decided to change the official government working hours from 8:00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m., to 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Minster of Fisheries Dr Mohamed Shainee said that the decision was made at a cabinet meeting today, as advised by ministers.

The purpose of this change is to provide the opportunity for government employees to spend quality time with their families, to work in the private sector apart from the government, and to facilitate youth to be more involved in sports activities, further education and technical professions.

The change also removes the one-hour break included in the earlier working hours.
