Assistance requested from US, Australia to investigate explosion on President

Head of Investigation Command, Chief Superintendent of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed has said that assistance has been requested from the US and Australia, to investigate the explosion on the speedboat carrying President Abdulla Yameen this morning.

Speaking to the media, Hamdhoon said that the speedboat is being checked by a forensic team.

“We want to assure the public that this is considered a very serious matter, and the police and MNDF will do everything possible to find what caused the explosion,” said Hamdhoon.

Further details were not possible as the investigation is ongoing, he said.

The First Lady, the President’s bodyguard, and a President’s Office staff were injured this morning in the explosion on the speedboat. All three are receiving treatment at IGMH.
