Vice Chairperson of MDP, Ali Niyaz has confirmed that the former President Mohamed Nasheed has been taken back to prison after being brought to Malé for an MRI scan.
A previous statement issued by the former President’s Office said that when President Nasheed consulted his doctor on 19 August, he was advised to do an MRI scan after two weeks. But since the scan has been delayed, lawyer Hassan Latheef on President Nasheed’s defense team has made a request at the Home Minister, Umar Naseer to arrange a scan on 2 September.
President Nasheed who was convicted of terrorism by the Criminal Court was moved back to prison on 23 August.
President Mohamed Nasheed was sentenced to 13 years in prison in March 2015 for ordering the abduction of the Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed in 2012 as the commander in chief, during his presidency.
