Six people have been arrested at the Hulhumalé beach area with beer cans.
Police said that all six men they arrested were locals. They arrested four 23-year-olds, one 20 year old and a 26-year-old.
The Police said that while officers from the Hulhumalé Police Station were out patrolling on Thursday night, they were tailing a suspected alcohol smuggling at the Tuna Jetty area and when they asked two men who were on a motorcycle with a bag to stop, they fled the scene at a high speed.
In the efforts to find the two men, Police found the vehicle he used to flee at the beach area and began the search of the beach area which led to the arrest of the six men around 9:30 p.m. the same night.
Police say that they found two unopened cans of beer during the search of the area after the men were found in a drunken state. They also found two opened cans and 11 emptied cans of beer at the scene.
The Hulhumalé Police and the Drug Enforcement Department of the Maldives Police Service is investigating the case.
