MNDF assists sinking landing craft

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has provided assistance to a landing craft which got into trouble while travelling from Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi to Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo.

There was one Maldivian and two foreigners on board “Shafraaz” at the time of the incident.

MNDF said that the incident was reported early morning on Tuesday, following which a team including divers was deployed to the scene from MNDF Malé Area Coast Guard Squadron.

The vessel is safe and presently located near Kaafu Akirifushi, under MNDF supervision.

The accident occurred due to a problem with the seawater pump on the landing craft, and work is ongoing to solve this, said MNDF.
