Major damage to three houses in Hoarafushi due to strong winds

Three houses in H.A. Hoarafushi have been damaged due to strong winds during showers today.

Vice President of the Hoarafushi Council, Ibrahim Rasheed said that three houses got damaged around 8:40 a.m. this morning.

He said that one of the three houses that were affected has been destroyed beyond use.

“There were very strong winds with the rain. While three houses sustained major damages, one of the houses is completely destroyed. There is nothing that can be used there. The tins (roof) were blown out. Everything inside, destroyed.” Councilor Rasheed said.

While the other two houses also sustained major damages, the Vice President of the Hoarafushi Council, Ibrahim Rasheed said that one of those houses also had their roof blown off.

He said that the residents of the damaged houses have now been moved to the “Rahvehi ge” (Islanders House).

The Vice President of the Hoarafushi Council said that some of the trees have been pulled out as well during the strong winds.

“Winds pick up to about 75 miles during showers. Even today when the wind picked up, Dhiraagu antenna was swaying about six inches.” Vice President of the Hoarafushi Council, Ibrahim Rasheed said.
