Immigration has sent back 14 foreign cashiers back to their countries under their program to find expats working as cashiers and sending them back to their home countries.
Media Official of Immigration, Hassan Khaleel told Sun Media today that 14 of the 34 foreign cashiers they have taken into custody have been sent back to their countries.
He said that they are not being deported but sent back.
Khaleel said that the delays in sending them back to their countries are because they have trouble acquiring their passports.
Starting in April, expats are not allowed to work as cashiers at shops, restaurants and other such places. But there are still a large number of foreign cashiers at shops and cafés.
Economic Ministry says that they have noted 199 businesses with expats at their counters.
Deputy Minister of the Economic Ministry, Adam Thaufeeq said that they won’t be as lenient as they have been in the past and they would cancel permits as well if they have to aside from the fines.
