Maamigili ferry passengers say everyone is safe

A ferry has sunk en route to Maamigili from Malé. Maldives National Defence Force Information Officer Adnan Mohamed told Sun Online that all passengers had time to put on life jackets, and no news had been received yet of anyone having been harmed. The boat sank near Kaafu Vaadhoo Resort. The incident was reported to MNDF at 5:45 a.m. Adnan said that the number of passengers onboard remains unclear. Police said that other vessels in the area are being alerted on the incident, and rescue efforts are under way by police and MNDF.
