Government shortens Eid holidays

The government has changed the Eid holidays and declared three days earlier announced as holidays, working days.

The President’s Office announced earlier that Eid holidays would be from 20 to 26 September.

President’s Office Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali told Sun Online that due to the change in hajj day, the government has decided to make 20, 21, and 22 September working days.

New Eid holidays are from 23 to 27 September.

This follows the declaration by Saudi Arabia last night following the non-sighting of the moon, that the first day of the month of Hajj in the Hijri calendar is 15 September, which means Eid will fall on 24 September.

According to calendars in use in the Maldives on which the government based its plans earlier, Eid was on 23 September.
