Spokesperson of the President’s Office Abbas Adil Riza has said that even if an election is held earlier than 2013, it will be won by the current government.
Abbas made this statement while speaking on TVM ‘Raajje Miadhu’ program last night, on the occasion of 100 days of President Waheed’s government.
“Before we arrive at the 2013 presidential elections, every election held before that will also be won by the coalition government. We are proving that right now,” Abbas said.
Abbas said that the new government has, within 100 days, erased the fear created in the society following the arrest of the Judge of Criminal Court Abdullah Mohamed by former President Nasheed’s administration, and also the unrest created by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
He described this as an accomplishment for the country’s constitution and its people.
“The government has accomplished progress for the constitution and the people in the past 100 days. It has without a doubt been ‘100 golden days’,” Abbas said.
MDP Interim Chairperson Reeko Moosa Manik, who also spoke on the program, criticised the government for its efforts to reduce government expenditure, and for the economic progress the government claims to have made. He said that the country’s condition had worsened in the past 100 days.
Moosa also said that MDP will overthrow Waheed’s government soon and hold a presidential election, and that the citizens will benefit only then.
“God willing, we will overthrow the current government soon. Maldivians will only benefit by overthrowing this government. We will do that soon,” Reeko Moosa said.
