State ordered to provide 7 year-old special care and counselling

N. Velidhoo Court has ordered that State provide a 7 year-old girl under protective custody of Noonu Atoll Family and Children Service Center special care and counselling.

Velidhoo Court gave the order on September 10 after looking into a lawsuit filed by the girl’s father against Noonu Atoll Family and Children Service Center.

The ruling said that Family and Children Service Center had itself confessed during trial that the girl required psychiatric treatment, and that the Center had not denied the charges levied against them.

Therefore Family and Children Service Center has been ordered to start providing sufficient special care and assistance, as well as counselling to the girl within 7 days as per Article 35 of Constitution.

The girl was taken to protective custody after some people filed a complaint against the girl’s father, accusing him of sexually abusing her.
